WYG International has been awarded a €1 million contract by the European Commission to undertake a feasibility study on renovating a Central Asian gas pipeline bringing gas from Bukhara via Tashkent in Uzbekistan through Kyrgyzstan to Almaty in Kazakhstan.
This is the first WYG International major technical contract in the former Soviet Union as a result of blending WYG International technical track record with WYG International’s fourteen years’ experience in Central Asia. A WYG International team will assess the condition of 50Km of pipeline near Bishkek that runs from the compressor station at Sokoluk to Birdir on the Kazakh border.
They will also evaluate the possibility of reusing a stock of 1000mm diameter pipes salvaged some fifteen years ago. The proposed route for the renovated pipeline covers a number of rivers that are regularly swollen by the run off from the nearby 5000m high Tien Shan Mountains. |
