| IMC Consulting led this important project which was to introduce EU good practice in health and safety management at enterprises. Working closely with the responsible government agencies, the project focused on the construction and wood processing industries in five regions of Poland – Bydgoszcz, Krakow, Katowice, Opole and Kielce. The mechanism for promoting the aims of the project was to organise a competition between businesses in applying good safety management practice. There were three categories covering micro, small and medium businesses.
The team provided capacity building for enterprise management on health and safety good practice through formal training sessions and regular advisory visits to each enterprise where progress against planned was reviewed and support given to managements towards achieving progress towards conformity with EU standards. Although the focus of the advice provided was on compliance with standards, the experts who were seasoned professionals in the target sectors were able to provide valuable professional advice on a wide range of issues based on their own management experience in the corresponding sectors in the EU.
The project ended with a high profile awareness campaign built on the awards ceremony at which the Chief Inspector, PIP, presided. Extensive media coverage was given and the importance of the introduction of EU standards in anticipation of accession achieved a high profile.
