| As well as providing support to the VET system the project is making a contribution to improving public administration in Tajikistan through policy advice to MLSP and training and mentoring MLSP staff.
The objective of the project which is being implemented by WYG International is to initiate reform of the VET system in Tajikistan to increase the country’s workforce employability through improved technical and entrepreneurial skills development, adapted to the needs of the labour market and supportive of the efforts of the Government of Tajikistan towards poverty alleviation.
The project is focussing on building the capacity of the Ministry of Labour and Social Projection (MLSP) including its Department of VET and the Methodological Centre for VET as well as other institutions, in order to develop VET reform policy and an implementation strategy; ensuring emphasis on the role of school based vocational education linked to the need for future technical and entrepreneurial skills in Tajikistan; preparing and supporting a restructuring plan for the vocational school delivery network, including issues such as catchment area, intake, enrolment, expected outputs, access, number of schools to be maintained and financing; assisting curriculum reform, including the identification and implementation of needed changes in teaching and learning methodologies for selected occupational families; and developing the capacity of the VET system in order to attract additional funding in line with the above-mentioned VET reform strategy and the optimisation plan for the delivery network.
WYG International has assisted MLSP to set up working groups and to select three schools in which to pilot innovations in curricular and teaching methods.
