| Romplumb operated a lead smelter in Baia Mare. The company was making severe financial losses and the smelting process causing serious environmental damage. Recognising the adverse social consequences of closure, the objectives of the project included the development and implementation of a crisis management plan to reduce financial losses, the design of an environmental action plan and a feasibility study into the establishment of a lead acid battery recycling plant in Baia Mare, together with a national battery collection system.
The results of the feasibility study were positive and WYG International responsible for identifying a suitable investor and securing all necessary documents in order to implement the recycling process. An important component of the project was to provide services to any who lost their jobs and other vulnerable groups in order to mitigate the impacts of restructuring the existing operations. |
