| WYG International has set up two consulting centres, one in Western Siberia and the other in South West Russia, to assist with the improvement of the competitiveness of industry in these regions. The Centres are providing advice on restructuring and ‘turnaround management’ to industry, support to municipalities on regional industrial policy and are supporting the improvement of the business environment, upgrading the efficiency of social and other services and assisting in the establishment of new private sector businesses.
A key objective was to transplant best international practice in consulting to create sustainable local consulting capacity. The local staff includes more than 20 consultants all of whom have undertaken an accredited in-depth training programme delivered by WYG International as well as bespoke mentoring through on the job training whilst working with WYG International consultants. Due to the success of the first phase of the project WYG International were retained to implement the second phase which built on the successes achieved during phase I.
There was a deliberate change of focus from the first phase where the majority of the assignments were led by WYG International consultants, to the current situation in which assignments are now being undertaken solely by local consultants with the Centres charging commercial rates for the services delivered. To date the Centres have undertaken over 150 assignments the majority of which have focussed on economic development and the provision of advisory services to enterprises in a wide range of industrial and service sectors. The Consulting Centres have become viable and operate without external financial support.
